ShadeLoc Zipper Shade Locks Down WCMA Award For Most Innovative Motorized Shade System

LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y., December 23, 2015—It was curtains for the challengers in the Motorized Shade Systems category as MechoSystems’ ShadeLoc^® zipper-shade system captured the title of “Most Innovative” solution in the 2015 WCMA Product Awards. The Window Covering Manufacturers Association’s (WCMA) annual competition showcases some of the industry’s best new products. It is judged by experts from around the design community.

“The WCMA Product Awards panel is always challenged to review a wide array of new and enhanced products and programs,” says Ralph Vasami, executive director of WCMA. “This year’s large number of technological innovations and new styles made for a tough competition among the manufacturers and speaks volumes for the hard work and ingenuity of our industry’s engineering and design teams.”

Ingenuity is the hallmark of the ShadeLoc design. A zipper-shade system, ShadeLoc employs side channels to capture the zippered edges of a shadecloth. This does two things: it secures the shade against the push or pull of air pressure or other external forces, keeping it flat; and it closes the pesky light gaps that appear between conventional shades, providing superior room-darkening, solar-shading, or both in its DoubleShade^® configuration.

The motorized system can be controlled by wall switch, remote, or as part of a network, and is designed with special extrusions and brackets that enable multiple shades (or “shade bands”) to be coupled together in order to utilize a single motor, a practice known as multi-banding. The multi-banded ShadeLoc reduces the overall number of motors required to raise and lower shades along a window wall while maintaining uniform shade alignment.

As a final touch, ShadeLoc channels feature a SnapLoc^® assembly that conceals fasteners and plugs for a clean surface and finished look.
